This short course of workshops has been created to fill the gap between 'I can alter that, let's buy it' to 'Sits in pile for ages never being touched'...

So many buy clothing or are gifted it with the intention of making an alteration to it, upcycling, amending it... and then never having the time or the knowledge for how to do so. Or, we buy things and find after wearing them for a while that they need some attention

Well, now we can

Or, have you been wanting to ask Ariane to amend/repair one of your much-loved garments? ... now’s the time to bring it in and learn how to do it

This is going to be an informal workshop, where you can bring along those items and Ariane will walk you through how to make the changes you want. This is hands-on tuition with the intention of making those garments stop collecting dust, start being worn and keep them out of landfill

The direction of these sessions is dictated by those that attend

Key Takeaways / Learning's from the class:

Basic construction techniques and explanations

A great opportunity to 'get inside' Ariane's head and ask those questions you've been hoping to have answered all while completing those projects you hoped to do long ago

Examples of alterations we can complete together:

-Taking in a shirt or dress at the side seams to reduce the size

-Shorten dress or top straps

-Tailor a trouser leg

-Change a zip

-Shorten and hem jeans or trousers

-Shortening a dress to make it into a top or tunic

-Add darts to amend the fit of a garment which is too loose

-Adding side vents to t-shirts so that they fit over a larger torso

-Extend the length of tops to cover midriff

(Please note – if you would like to add pockets to garments there is a separate workshop scheduled dedicated to this)

Sizing

Ariane takes great pride in well-fitting garments, ones that make you feel comfortable in your own skin - and with 17+ years of pattern making experience, we are confident you'll feel that way in your new pieces.

That Ariane often uses conscious grading* when grading her garment patterns into different sizes. Taking the time to consider if the standard +0.6mm increase on the bum cover of a bikini (for example) would be enough, or if our more curvier clients would be more comfortable with more cover? It takes time to perfect, and its time she feels is important to spend on her garments. For that reason, if two friends in a S and a XL bought the same garment, they may fit there bodies differently, to reflect their individually body shapes

Most of the fabric for our Swimwear and Sparkles has 4 way stretch which means that it shapes itself around the curves of your body beautifully. As we use so many different fabrics, we adjust the fit of patterns to ensure that a S/M/L etc all stay as true to size as possible, and recommend that you order swimwear based on your knicker and bra band size

Testimonials

I’m so glad I got this bikini top it’s like the holy grail - it stays on in the waves, my kids can pull at it, and a surprise bonus is super supportive and I feel super sexy wearing it. Absolutely LOVE it - thank you!

Nicole Jago

It was exactly what i was looking for in terms of festival wear that was modest for my curvy body type. The Cara Tops are great because they accommodate larger sizes while still seating the girls nicely.
The Jaimee shorts are cute and cheeky, and good for someone who doesn't want to show too much tummy but a bit of cheeky booty.
Overall, a really cute good quality set.
