There are so many commercially available patterns to buy, but do you know what to do once you get it home?
Understanding the back of the packet and how much fabric to buy can feel like you need to decode a cryptic clue - not to mention once you get it home and start to try to make it
In this short course, Ariane will take you through understanding the annotations and information supplied by the pattern company. You will learn about measuring your body and selecting the closest size along with garment ease and how to use the pattern without having to cut it up (meaning it can be used for more sizes in the future)
You will work through how to amend the pattern to fit your requirements and you will then create the clothing including cutting, sewing and finishing touches
This short course is designed to set you up for being able to create at home
In this class you will have the option of using the following patterns:
-A tracksuit (overlocker)
-A dress (sewing Machine)
-Simple jacket (sewing machine)
-Floor Length Dressing gown (overlocker or sewing machine)

Pre Class Requirements:
1. Completed the Introductory to Overlocker's or Sewing Machine class using either your own machine or one of Ariane's
or
2. Discussed with Ariane that you have suitable recent experience with a machine to be able to enjoy this class.
You can choose in this class if you would prefer to work with woven or knit fabrics - as it is a small number of students who will be in the class we will be able to ensure you all have the correct help to achieve success with your garments so long as you have an understanding of basic sewing
What to bring with you:
A notebook
Fabric: Expect to buy your fabric between week 1 and 2. This will vary from student to student due to the choice of garment that you make - it should be no more than 3 meters of fabric as a guide (unless you make the dress or gown to the floor). After selecting which pattern you would like to proceed with for the course, Ariane will help you to understand the best type of fabric. Please note, this course will not cover using sequin fabrics due to the complexity
If you are using your own Sewing Machine or Overlocker please bring it from week's 2 onwards. You will also need the machine pedal, threads and machine specific needles
If you do not have your own Sewing Machine or Overlocker - you are welcome to use one of Ariane's - the number of these is limited, so please advise at the time of booking if you will need one so that the class numbers can be arranged correctly - thank you. If you need to use one of these machines please ensure that your fabric needs BLACK threads, as this is what the machines will be set up to use
What would you receive:
A finished garment that has been taken from the paper pattern, altered to fit your measurements and constructed to a professional standard
A paper pattern traced by you from one of the offered pre-bought patterns
The option to work with either woven or stretch fabric
A wider knowledge of garment pattern making, cutting and construction methods

You will be added to the special secret Sparkle Gang Stitch Facebook group - a place where Ariane will be sharing tips and tricks for sewing and secret ideas for how to improve your sewing. Class attendees will be encouraged to share pictures of their makes and share knowledge and ideas. Its a community were growing for the Sewing Revolution! This is the place to have access to Ariane's technical knowledge during and after the short course
Who can attend?
The classes are operated in a respectful manner and no preferences will be taken over the gender of attendees - everyone is encouraged to take part!
Anyone over the age of 18 due to the use of sewing machines
Class Length:
2.5 hours x 7 classes = 17.5 hours total

Wednesday May 8th - 6.30pm - 9pm
Thursday 23rd May - 10.30am to 1pm
Location:
Classes will be held at Ariane's studio - 18 Dawson Street, Brunswick.
Refund and Cancellation Policy:
No Refund applicable, if the class is run again you will be welcome to attend so long as you gave over 48 hours cancellation notice. Not transferable to another person. To run, this class needs a minimum of 3 attendees booked in, if this is not the case 48 hours before the class begins Ariane may be in touch to re-schedule to another date
