For many women wearing a dress is iconic to femininity. Ariane favours a dress over trousers almost every day. She’s excited by the possibilities that something can be so simple to wear yet look so refined. Saying often, that choosing to wear a dress is so much easier than having to style trousers and a top, yet it has the appearance of an outfit that took so much longer to put together

In this tailored dress class, we will start to touch on basic pattern making techniques while creating a classic shift dress. The joy of this style is that it can be amended to add flare to the skirt, change the waist height, amend the neckline, adjust the hem length… the list goes on.

As this dress will be made from woven fabrics, we are going to need to be able to fasten it – so in this class, we will learn how to add a zip to the dress. You can choose if you would like it to be a concealed zip or make a statement by having it exposed.

Key Takeaway's / Learning's from the class:

How to measure your body for a pattern and pick the size to use

Tracing off a pattern

Basic design work - how to add panels and contrast colours to the dress

Basic pattern alterations - adding new seam allowances, changing the length and also the front and back necklines

Bagging out to conceal seams around the arms and neck, creating a professionally finished garment that is partially lined

Beginning to learn about fabric placement when cutting out and fabric wastage

Constructing the garment including French seams

Inserting a zip

Finishing techniques to ensure a high-quality garment which will wear well

Sizing

Ariane takes great pride in well-fitting garments, ones that make you feel comfortable in your own skin - and with 17+ years of pattern making experience, we are confident you'll feel that way in your new pieces.

That Ariane often uses conscious grading* when grading her garment patterns into different sizes. Taking the time to consider if the standard +0.6mm increase on the bum cover of a bikini (for example) would be enough, or if our more curvier clients would be more comfortable with more cover? It takes time to perfect, and its time she feels is important to spend on her garments. For that reason, if two friends in a S and a XL bought the same garment, they may fit there bodies differently, to reflect their individually body shapes

Most of the fabric for our Swimwear and Sparkles has 4 way stretch which means that it shapes itself around the curves of your body beautifully. As we use so many different fabrics, we adjust the fit of patterns to ensure that a S/M/L etc all stay as true to size as possible, and recommend that you order swimwear based on your knicker and bra band size

Testimonials

I’m so glad I got this bikini top it’s like the holy grail - it stays on in the waves, my kids can pull at it, and a surprise bonus is super supportive and I feel super sexy wearing it. Absolutely LOVE it - thank you!

Nicole Jago

It was exactly what i was looking for in terms of festival wear that was modest for my curvy body type. The Cara Tops are great because they accommodate larger sizes while still seating the girls nicely.
The Jaimee shorts are cute and cheeky, and good for someone who doesn't want to show too much tummy but a bit of cheeky booty.
Overall, a really cute good quality set.
